I grew up, in a small Welsh town called Bridgend, the youngest of three children.
My father was a chartered surveyor and my mother a secretary.

At the age of ten I won a scholarship and a government grant to Cowbridge Grammar, a notable boarding school in South Wales. I left school when I was seventeen with the idea of some sort of career in commercial art.

I enrolled at Swansea College of Art and Design in 1974 where I completed a Foundation Course and went on to Wolverhampton University. I graduated with an honours degree in Visual Communications and the knowledge that what I really wanted to do was advertising.
