I was ‘headhunted’ by DDB as senior art director at a time when the agency was going through major growth. My creative partner and I were taken on from Colenso as part of a drive to enhance the agency’s creative product. I was promoted to creative director in June 1989 and worked happily and successfully at DDB, winning both new business and creative awards. In the four years I was there I learned about management, motivation, recruiting staff, planning and organising work of all kinds. I experienced some of my happiest times there and, I believe, produced the best creative work of my career to date.
